Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. It was cold and rainy here but that didn't deter us. We had tickets to see Brad Paisley at the rodeo and the boys' grandparents had volunteered to watch them overnight. We were excited to have a date and get out of the house (well I know I was, can't speak for hubby). We decided to take the park and ride since traffic is terrible and we'd rather ride than drive, especially in the rain. It ended up taking FOREVER to get there but we finally arrived.
One of our favorite things to do at the rodeo is try all the different foods, but by the time we got there we were sooo hungry and it was so rainy that we made our choices quickly (barbecue sandwiches, a blooming onion, pecan pie and sweet tea) and sat down to eat. Yum! After we ate, we went inside to see the exhibits. I was so carefree! I love my kids more than life, but an occasional date with just my husband and I is nice. Every time I smelled a bad aroma, I knew it wasn't my kids. That was a cool feeling. (By the way, it was usually one of the animals lol!) I also enjoyed browsing the shops with breakables, something I'd NEVER do with my precious angel boys along for the ride.
Our seats were really good! We were situated right over the entrance where a lot of the participants came in so we got a close up view of some of the behind the scenes stuff. They had a new event this year that was fun to watch called Mutton Bustin'. That was pretty humorous with the younger kids riding sheep! I also always enjoy the Calf Scramble. I always want to get out there and help the girls pull their calf into the box. If you don't know what a Calf Scramble is, it's where youngsters get into the rodeo arena and chase calves. They have to harness the calf and pull it into a marked off area. If they do, they get a certificate to buy a calf to raise and show at the rodeo next year.
After the rodeo events, Brad Paisley took the stage. This is the first time I have seen Brad in concert. He really puts on a wonderful show. He changes guitars as often as the women entertainers change outfits! He has some really cool ones, though. I enjoyed the show immensely. He played one of my favorite songs Waitin' On A Woman (click that link to watch the video with Brad and Andy Griffith - love it).
It was a fun time! I think we need to have date night more often. Even though I am tired I feel refreshed to have gotten out amongst adults.
What is your favorite way to spend an anniversary or special event with your significant other?

Our anniversary is coming up too and I really need to get planning!
Happy Anniversary! It is nice to get out without the children every once in a while.
We usually end up going out as a family for our anniversary-perhaps I can change that one of these days!
