PotaMUST Find: My Diaper Bag Must Have

We all know that diapers, wipes, pacifiers and/or bottles (if you use them) and burpees are must haves in most mom's diaper bags. I can attest that there are also items that make life a lot easier that can become must haves.

When I found out I was pregnant with my oldest, I was excited to register for baby items. I just love trying new baby items and seeing the newest and best things out there. Well, I tell you, I wish I had known about slings at that time. We registered for a front carrier for my oldest because we didn't know better. I truly had no idea about babywearing and the HUGE selection of slings.

Then when my oldest was just a few months old, we found out we were expecting our second child. By then, I had heard of babywearing and had done a lot of research. I set out to find the perfect sling for me. After much research, I decided to try the Lucky Baby Sling. As someone new to babywearing, I liked that it looked very easy to use (just slide it on with no adjusting) and it folded very small to slip in a diaper bag or purse. I had enough bulky baby items to lug around and, with two little ones, I surely didn't need any more.

So, the first sling I purchased was the June style from Lucky Baby Slings. The picture at left shows me wearing my youngest when he was much smaller (they grow too fast - he'll be one later this month!) in that first Lucky Baby Sling. Lucky Baby Slings are what are called a pouch sling in babywearing circles.

About Lucky Baby Slings from their website:

We're busy moms and dads just like you. So we want the same things. We want to feel like we're doing the best for our child. Giving them everything that they need. It's what makes us feel good about the job we're doing. Wearing your child in a sling will give you that feeling, and that confidence.

We believe in goodness. We believe in doing what's right. So it should come as no surprise that not only do we care about our business, but our community at large.

We are dedicated to helping others and giving back to our community and world. We hire moms and dads who work from home while doing what they love. We give back to the community. We also give part of the proceeds from all sales to a charity to help a child or family in need. Our current charity is Rocky Mountain Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer. We are also actively involved in the local community volunteering time and effort to help others.

Our slings are locally manufactured here in Utah at a place that's nice to work at. Where the workers get paid well and the owner is someone you would consider a friend.
Support small business - support community values - support family-owned and operated businesses - that's Lucky Baby.

They are also a "green" company. Check out their About Us section for more information.

I had been wondering about the beautiful looking slings that had Minky (or minkee). They looked really soft.

What is Minky? Lucky Baby's website describes it best:

"Minky (also spelled minkee) fabric is the most luxurious and softest fabric that you can buy. Considered a chenille, it is plush, soft and smooth to the touch. The minky that we use is thin enough to wear year round and is the softest minky that is available on the market. These babies are soooo lucky. And guess what? You are too - minky is totally washer and dryer safe!"

I was happy to review the Lucky Baby Sling in Eden with Minky, which is a gorgeous floral print with a green background that reverses to a natural minky plush. Personally, I find Minky to be very lightweight and luxuriously soft. I live in a very warm climate and I didn't find it any warmer than other slings I have used. My son enjoyed being carried more (he is heavy) while I did things around the house. I would have loved to have this sling when my babies were infants. The inside of the sling is soooo soft and I imagine it would feel heavenly on newborn skin. I really love that it folds just as small as the first sling (without Minky) that I have. I have also used it as a stroller blanket to throw over my sleeping kiddos when they doze at the mall (the sling unfolds). I can also use it with my 23 month old. It's wonderful to have my arms free to help one child while still carrying and being close to my other child.

You can purchase Lucky Baby Slings at http://www.lucky-baby.com/. I also noticed they are having a 20% off sale on their Minky slings right now. That's a good deal, in my opinion!

What is your diaper bag must have?

I loved my pouch sling when Hannah was little but I never saw any with a minky interior. Those look fantastic! Thanks for sharing them with us :)

That looks like a great sling. I wondered if the minky would be hot so I'm glad to hear it's not. I'm off to check out Lucky Baby.

I was in the same boat as you! Never "wore" my first born as I didn't know much about it. Now, I have a little girl a month younger than your little boy, and I wear her everywhere! The Lucky Baby sling looks nice!

Those are adorable, and they sound like a lifesaver. I only used a sling once or twice with my little one, but I think I'm going to invest in a nice one like these the next time around.

The Eden print is gorgeous, and I love the idea of minky surrounding baby. Lucky little one!

Cool! I never did find a sling or carrier that worked for me without breaking my budget. Now my kids are too big. I always wanted one though.

My diaper bag must have the Enfamil formula packets much like the ones Crystal Light makes for bottled water for grown ups. That way all you have to take is bottles of water and not have to worry about keeping formula cold.

My youngest is almost 10 months and this would be perfect for us. We do a lot of walking outdoors and it would be great for those times when he just wants Mommy and I need to get things done. I'm definitely going to check them out.

I so need a sling for my 11 month old. It's hard to carry him and get my work done around the house without any free hands! Great product.

My diaperbag must-haves have been the diaper ducky with the scented bags...I hate leaving stinky diapers at other people's houses!
