Vroom Solo Review (and Register to Win One)

Crushed cereal, mashed graham crackers, mutilated Goldfish, scattered dry dog food, shedding dog hair, spilled spices, knocked over plants... this is a day in the life of two tornadic toddlers and their furry friends.

Good thing I have an awesome upright vacuum, a couple good brooms, a steam mop and now my Vroom Solo.

What is a Vroom Solo? It's a totally different type of vacuum. Take a look at my video review of the sample I received:

The Vroom is unlike any other vacuum I have ever seen. This is the perfect companion to your regular upright vacuum. It doesn't replace it for big jobs, but for those daily hourly messes it is amazing. As shown in my video, it's super easy because it automatically turns on when I take the hose out. The hose stretches up to 24 feet so I can use it pretty much anywhere in my kitchen. I love that I can use it to clean out the silverware drawer (crumb city), sugar spills and all the messes mentioned above in just a few seconds.

The Vroom Solo is a freestanding unit that works in any home (with a 120 volt power supply) and delivers stands alone convenience with its own power unit and dust collection bag.
  • Stand-alone unit. Central vacuum system not needed
  • This compact vacuum comes with its own brawny power unit
  • Installation is fast- Vroom Solo plugs into 120 volt power supply
  • Fits most standard kitchen and bathroom cabinets
  • Collection bag is easily accessed

There is also a version for central vacuum system owners. The Vroom Solo retails for $299 while the Vroom Central retails for $199. Click here to see if either version of the Vroom is right for you.

All in all, I really think the Vroom is a handy item for my kitchen (this is the room I chose, but according to their website, they are good for bathrooms, laundry rooms, etc.). I love that it's out of sight, but super easy to access to clean up messes in a flash. I use it at least 5 or 6 times a day.

It comes with attachments and there are more available to purchase. I am definitely going to purchase the Deluxe Pet Brush Attachment. I can't tell you how much I need that attachment! The Dust Mop Tool would also be really handy, in my opinion.

If you are looking for a super cheap way to clean up dry messes, you might want to stick to a broom, but I think the Vroom is worth the price if you are someone who wants an easy, reliable, hidden, super fast, mounted and always ready way to clean up dry messes. A future version that is capable of cleaning up wet messes would be really nice to have.

My husband, being mechanically inclined, felt that the Vroom Solo was moderately easy to install, however he said he had to make some inferences and he feels the instructions may have been a little more difficult for someone not as mechanically inclined (meaning me). The website says that a dealer can install the system, although a simplified version might be nice for those that plan to install the Vroom without the help of a professional.

And, this just in: There will be a virtual Tweetup on Monday June, 8 2009 at 7:30pm central time. The topic for discussion will be tips for keeping a clean house along with the challenges of doing so. You can learn from other moms (#vroomvac). In addition, they will be giving away two Vroom Solos during the Tweetup! You can follow Vroom @vroomvac.

That's really cool. I've only seen vaccums like that in central systems so it's awesome to see the single unit. That really is perfect for a kitchen!

This is so cool! I could so use one of these in my house with 5 kids and a dog. I am ALWAYS cleaning up messes and hate dragging the vacuum out.

I think this could be a better product for cleaning our stairs.

I really, really, really, really want one. I had no idea there was a pet attachment. The kitchen would be the perfect place for it too!

@Not So Average Mama

Yes, Ikea Antilop. We have two and my in-laws have two and even the great-grandparents have one. They are so affordable and much easier to clean than the cloth covered one we used to have.

Cool review Shannon. It looks like a great vacuum. Lots of suction power, and I like your little vlog video :)
