We are blessed to receive Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECI). Basically, they help families who have children who need a little extra help reach their potential through developmental services. We have a physical therapist and an early intervention specialist come out several times a month to work with my son and help us with the skills we need to help him.
Today, I am going to tell you about some toddler toys that I love that help with this (these are great for all kids, not just those with developmental delays). The toys are all from Discovery Toys. These toys are just like the ones our early intervention specialist uses and my kids both love them.
The best way to show how a toy works and how children interact with them, in my opinion, is through photos and video. Here is a video I put together of the boys playing with their Discovery Toys:
The items you saw in the video are as follows:
Measure Up!® Cups

Hand your toddler a set of Measure Up!® Cups and watch natural learning in action. Your little one will automatically use the cups to scoop, dump, fill, nest, stack and tumble. After all the fine motor exploration, you can use these volumetrically correct, sequentially numbered cups to introduce important preschool concepts related to volume, size, color and measurement.
Place & Trace® Puzzles
With the Place & Trace® Puzzles, your child's first set of puzzles is also a versatile learning tool! Pieces fit into three themed trays to teach shape recognition and fine motor dexterity. Puzzle shapes can also be used for sorting and matching activities, creating imaginary storylines, stenciling, clay stamping, and cookie cutting.
Giant Pegboard™
With the Giant Pegboard™, the award-winning classic, offers your child years of meaningful pre-math and pre-reading play. One side features a pegboard for sorting and stacking; flip side is a "geoboard" with raised pegs so older children can generate geometric designs. Set comes with 25 easy-to-grasp pegs of various shapes and colors, plus expanded Parent Guide chock-full of educational play ideas.
Giant Pegboard™ Activity Pack

Add more math mileage to your Giant Peg Board with the Giant Pegboard™ Activity Pack! Your child can practice math skills related to colors, counting, and patterning, plus developing fine motor dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Bonus pack contains 25 round pegs in all five colors, along with a lace. Combine pegs with the set included with Giant Pegboard, or use alone to create necklaces or color stacks.
Mom's last word...
From the video, you can see that the boys love the these Discovery Toys and they provide them with endless fun and learning. From my point of view, these are wonderful, sturdy, easy to clean toys. They come in nice boxes so that I can store them when we aren't using them. Our early intervention specialist loves them too. Today, she used the Giant Pegboard with my oldest son and he learned a new skill. Since he cannot communicate verbally very well, she had him "ask" for pegs by touching the hole he wanted to put the peg in. When he did that, she would give him the peg. He was so proud when he filled up the entire pegboard.

Those sound really awesome. This is honestly my first time ever hearing about these. Going to check out more of them.
These look like wonderful toys! My nephew is just a little younger than your 2 1/2 year old and has some slight delays as well. These look like they would be great in encouraging him to learn some new skills. I'm going to check out the website. Thanks!
I lvoew seeing a review on these toys. I met with a local lady about 3 months ago to sell them. Honestly i dont know if i want to do a 'party based business' but i sure would lvoe to have the started kit because they are AMAZING toys all around. We just could not afford the kit at the time (and well still cant) either way Discovery toys are an amzing company with amazing products for children!!!
I hadn't heard of them until a couple months ago, Brittany. We really love them. I am about to add another video to this post showing my son's new communication skill thanks to therapy and this toy.
Staci, I bet your nephew would love these and his mom too.
MommaWad09, I think they are worth the cost... maybe ask for them for birthdays or holiday gifts if you do that. :)
I have never heard of this. I don't have children (yet), but discovery toys seem like they would be good for all children. I can see how they could encourage a lot of imagination.
Sounds really cool. I think my son would love any of those, esp the dinosaurs. Jenprincess88 at aol dot com

Stephanie,
That is wonderful to hear. I am so glad that my video acquainted you with their toys and helped you decide to sign up. We still love the toys and use them constantly. They look as new as the day we got them even though they have been used so much.
As a matter of fact, I was using the Place & Trace extensively yesterday for my son’s at home therapy. They are so versatile. We were using them in our small blow up pool for him to fetch, then name, then sort by color, then put in correct puzzle slot.
